This week, as well as McIlroy’s return at the US PGA, which incidentally seems to be going quite well, we learn about a very interesting golf break. It has a very long playing season, thanks to it’s beautiful Mediterranean weather and it now boasts several new, top-class golf courses. So where’s this emerging major golf holiday destination?
It’s Cyprus, and this week Telegraph Travel put Cyprus under the spot light with three impressive golf clubs to choose from. Number one is Aphrodite Hills Golf Club – It’s the best-known course on the island and a head for heights is advisable! It’s pretty hilly and high in places. Opening in 2002, the 7th hole requires a lengthy buggy commute down a hairpin track, reminiscent of San Francisco’s Lombard Street.
The second golf course mentioned is Secret Valley. It’s a ridiculously pretty course that opened in 1996 and this course is also a very hilly one, with some additional friends: Snakes. That’s right, golfers are warned to ‘beware of the snakes’, but the blunt nose viper, although highly poisonous, should not detract from the stunning views and a pleasant afternoon of golf.
Moving on to course three, Elea Estate is a less dramatic golf course, but was chosen due to it’s interesting design that should appeal more to strategic golfers (there are some 60 bunkers!). Designed by none other than Nick Faldo, generous fairways and few hazards to negotiate make it an awesome golf course.
So get your golf clubs and golf equipment at the ready! Book your flights and enjoy some Cyprus sun! If you need to upgrade your golf kit before hand, then check out GolfDealers for a smashing array of new and ex-demo golf clubs and golf equipment!
